The Project

As part of Aurizon’s FY25 Asset Renewals Newlands Formations Program, Schwarz Excavations was engaged to deliver the construction of the Pring-Buckley rail formation between NL5.1 km and 5.5 km on the Main Road alignment in Central Queensland. The project formed part of Formation Package A and involved the removal and reconstruction of existing track infrastructure, extensive earthworks, and the delivery of a new engineered formation designed to improve long-term track performance and resilience.

The Scope

  • Pre-closure works, including material deliveries and site establishment
  • Track removal and earthworks, comprising:
    • Removal of rail over multiple sections
    • Removal and stacking of sleepers
    • Removal of ballast and spoil
    • Excavation to subgrade level
    • Proof rolling and subgrade testing
    • Replacement of unsuitable material where required
  • Formation construction works
  • Track reinstatement activities
