About us
Noel and Patricia Schwarz established Schwarz Excavations in 1986 in Gracemere, Central Queensland. Schwarz Excavations began with one mini excavator and one truck offering contract excavation work for local builders and plumbers.
After 5 years, Schwarz Excavations steadily expanded, adding more machinery to their fleet, mainly excavators, trucks, and bobcats.
In 1991 Schwarz Excavations began its business relationship with Queensland Rail providing rail maintenance services. 2006 saw Noel and Patricia's son Jeffrey become a Director of the company as the rail maintenance demand increased.
As the world demand for coal increased and vast amounts of Coal were being transported along the Central Queensland rail network, Schwarz Excavations grew rapidly from 5 employees to 70 employees in 10 years, now with close to 100 employees.
With this demand and expansion, Noel, Patricia and Jeffrey identified a market to potentially grow their business; as the way the rail track was being maintained wasn’t profitable. They instigated, helped design, develop and purchase the first 5 Hi-Rail Excavators (undercutter) that have revolutionised their business.
In 2015, Schwarz Excavations identified demand in the industry and diversified the business model to include plant hire, civil construction, and bulk/heavy haulage.
Today after 37 years in business, Schwarz Excavations are a respected rail maintenance, civil construction and bulk/heavy haulage contracting company within Central Queensland and the pioneering leader of Australian rail line maintenance.
The 22nd of July 2022 saw a major milestone for the family-owned company when MAAS Group Holdings Limited (MGH) acquired Schwarz Excavations. With similar values held by both companies, a partnership with MGH was a positive progression for Schwarz Excavations and an exciting time for both businesses.
MGH is a leading independent Australian construction material, equipment, and service provider with diversified exposures across the civil, infrastructure, mining, and real estate markets.
Jeffrey Schwarz worked closely with MGH to ensure the acquisition was a smooth transition and has stayed on as General Manager for Schwarz Excavations, leading the business to success. Noel and Patricia are now happily retired after a successful 36 years in business.
MGH has acquired numerous businesses within the Central Queensland region, providing many opportunities, and Schwarz Excavations is looking forward to the future and continuing to grow within the community.
