The Queensland Government is committed to transitioning to renewable energy through the development of Renewable Energy Zones, with 12 potential zones planned for development across the state.
One of the most significant initiatives is the Central Queensland Renewable Energy Zone (Central REZ) – a key region in the state’s energy future. Schwarz Excavations is committed and proud to play a part in helping to increase the potential of the Central REZ, delivering civil construction expertise to renewable energy projects such as wind farms, solar farms and energy systems.

Schwarz Excavations and the Central Queensland Renewable Energy Zone: key projects
As part of the Central Queensland Renewable Energy Zone, we’re proud to support several renewable energy projects that will contribute to the state’s energy grid. These projects will play a crucial role in powering homes, businesses and communities with clean, sustainable energy.
Our team has a proven track record of successfully completing civil works for complex infrastructure projects, including building access roads and site preparation, and constructing transmission lines and substations.
Olive Downs – a global benchmark in sustainable mining
Completed in 2023, we delivered rail infrastructure support through general bulk and civil earthworks, new structure installations, stormwater installation, and track upgrades in the Olive Downs/Moranbah area.
Rookwood Weir – mass hydropower structure
Ongoing since November 2021, our work on the 74,325 megalitre weir included plant hire, bulk earthworks, and civil construction at the Rockwood Weir Gogango site.
Gracemere pipe laydown camp facility
Completed in August 2023 for the almost $1 billion Fitzroy to Gladstone pipeline project, our work included bulk and civil earthworks, structure works, and carpark construction in Gracemere.
Our work ensures that renewable energy generation can be efficiently connected to the grid, enabling the transfer of power and energy to consumers while supporting the growth of Queensland’s renewable energy capacity.
