The Project

The Aurizon Blackwater Drainage Package was a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade program delivered across multiple high-priority sites within the Blackwater rail system. The project focused on increasing network resilience and mitigating the impact of significant weather events on rail operations. By modernising drainage formations and restoring corridor flow paths, our team ensured the long-term protection of rail assets and improved the safety and accessibility of the maintenance corridor.

The Scope

  • Improved network resilience by delivering a comprehensive drainage upgrade program across multiple high-priority sites in the Blackwater system
  • Executed precise formation cutting to achieve a 4 per cent fall from the track to the corridor, significantly reducing water saturation risks
  • Restored longitudinal drainage efficiency through the reinstatement of existing systems and the installation of new pipework
  • Widened maintenance access tracks to 4–5 metres where possible to improve operational safety and vehicle movement
  • Reshaped and cleared culverts to remove obstructions and align with modern hydraulic design specifications
  • Managed the relocation of spoil and the installation of erosion control measures, including capping and flood rock, to enhance site stability
  • Navigated weather-related delays through adaptive work planning and proactive on-site decision-making to maintain productivity
  • Provided daily progress updates and consistent weekly reporting to ensure full stakeholder transparency and project alignment
  • Optimised efficiency by sequencing high-risk danger zone works first, reducing the need for rework and accelerating project delivery
  • Received strong satisfaction from Aurizon for the quality and consistency of the final product delivered across all locations
